St. Andrew Confirmation 2025

Please note – Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, the Diocese of Raleigh adjusted the age for the preparation of Confirmation. Candidates beginning their preparation must be in the 9th – 11th grades.

Diocesan guidelines require a two-year sacramental preparation period. You may register for Confirmation if you:

  • have a sincere desire to receive this sacrament;
  • have never been confirmed;
  • are a registered St. Andrew parishioner;
  • are in grades 9 – 11;
  • attend a Faith Formation program in 2023-2024 (Parish Faith Formation, Parish Home Study, Catholic Home School or Catholic School);
  • plan to attend a Faith Formation program in the 2024-2025 school year (Parish Faith Formation, Parish Home Study, Catholic Home School or Catholic School).

At the time of registration you must provide proof of Baptism. If you were baptized or received First Communion at St. Andrew, please note that on the registration form and a copy of the baptismal certificate will not be necessary. A copy of the baptismal certificate is required for all others.

YEAR ONE Requirements:

  • Attendance in a Faith Formation program: Parish Faith Formation, Catholic Home School or Catholic School.
  • Candidate and Parent Confirmation Orientation.
  • Choosing and developing relationship with a sponsor. A sponsor “sees that the confirmed person acts as a true witness to Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations connected with this sacrament” (Canon 892). Your sponsor must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic at least 16 years of age. If your sponsor is not a St. Andrew parishioner, an affidavit from his/her parish is required attesting to his/her eligibility to be a sponsor. You will receive materials at the Orientation to give to your sponsor and be asked to meet periodically with him/her. Your sponsor is not required to attend classes but is welcome.
  • Year 1 Confirmation Retreat.

YEAR TWO Requirements:

  • Attendance in a Faith Formation program: Parish Faith Formation, Catholic Home School or Catholic School.
  • Confirmation Classes. Candidates must attend four ninety minute classes.
  • A letter requesting Confirmation. A candidate must “properly and reasonably request” Confirmation (Canon 885).
  • Interview with our parish clergy. This will be scheduled through the Faith Formation office in the second year.
  • Year 2 Confirmation Retreat.
  • Confirmation Rehearsal. You and your sponsor (or your proxy) are required to attend a rehearsal.
  • Confirmation Mystagogy. The Newly Confirmed gather to reflect on the Sacrament of Confirmation and its meaning in their lives.

MUST I ATTEND A RETREAT EACH YEAR OF PREPARATION?

Yes, candidates attend two Confirmation retreats, one each year of preparation. The retreats cannot be missed.
