Brown Bag Ministry
Brown Bag Ministry prepares and distributes 175 brown bag lunches to the homeless every Saturday at Moore’s Square in downtown Raleigh. Working with other churches in the area, we are also responsible for preparing a hot meal to feed 75-125 homeless and those in need on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Donations of food also come from Lowe’s Foods (High House & Davis), Kroger’s (High House & Hwy 55) and Food Lion. More information can be found at the Brown Bag Ministry website at www.BrownBagMinistry.org
Latest News! The Raleigh Rescue Mission is sponsoring a "Festival of Hope" on Saturday, May 3, 2008. The Rescue Mission has asked the Brown Bag Ministry to supply 2,000 indvidual bags of chips for this event. If you can help us with this, we ask that you bring your donation to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, at 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex, NC the week of April 28-May2. These donations can be dropped off and left on the back counter in the kitchen. Please mark your donation for Brown Bag Ministry.
You can purchase 50 bags of chips at Sam's Club or BJ's wholesale for about $10.00. If you are unable to buy the chips but would like to make a donation, you can make checks payable to Brown Bag Ministry and drop them off at the church or mail them to:

It is truly amazing how the Lord works through so many people. Our schedule of volunteers with this ministry from all walks of life continues to grow on a daily basis. As you can see from the dates below, we are pretty booked up for most of the winter and spring months already. We have grown from preparing 25 bags to 275 bags in a year, providing for the hungry.
We ask that the group bring one of the items that will go into the bag, either 275 bottles of water; granola bars; or bananas. Just let us know what you will be bringing and we will supply the rest of the items. Also, provide the following information along with the preferred dates:
Bringing items: We meet over at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex. between 10 and 10:30 am. We will then pack up the bags and leave the church at about 11:40 to go down to Moores' square. We will be brining various desserts with us down to the park on that day and the kids can help distribute them along with the bags. We are usually finished up between 12:30 and 1:00pm.
There may be another way that your group could help though. Below is a list of what we called "Specialty Bags", where items as grouped, or any other way would be helpful if you are looking for a different idea. Any of these items, would work depending upon what your group would be able to do. Currently, we have a supply of soap and shampoo, tooth brushes and razors. We are in need of deodorant or toothpaste, ziplock bags, and labor to put them together. Again, all is appreciated.
