Sister Mary Therese Brown, SND, Director of Adult Faith Formation Sister Mary Therese has been a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame for 48 years since religious profession. The Sisters of Notre Dame participate in the mission of Jesus Christ witnessing God’s goodness and provident care to others through education in all its forms, especially catechesis and to other ministries in keeping with the needs of the times.
For 35 years, Sister’s ministry was in high school education in a wide variety of schools: all girls, co-ed, suburbs and inner city in the states of Ohio, Virginia and Florida. She received her Pastoral Ministry Certification at St. Mary’s University in Winoma, MN after three summers spent with people from around the country who were in similar ministries.
Following this, Sister served as Director of Religious Education (DRE) at a city parish in Ohio for five years and then moved to Wilson, NC where she was DRE and Adult Faith Formation Director at St. Therese Parish. Because of financial constraints, she was obliged to look for new work after one year, which brought her to St. Andrew’s as the Director of Adult Faith Formation.
Some of what this position involves is journeying with the adults and children in the RCIA process in addition to supporting and working with the catechists and their sponsors. She also oversees the Landings program for Returning Catholics and Adult Confirmation, as well as other adult groups. Bible study on Monday evenings is her way of stretching her knowledge and sharing with the participants a deepening of faith through reflection and study of Scripture.
