St Andrew Respect Life Embryonic Stem-Cell Research and Cloning

Because the harvesting of stem cells from human embryos effectively kills the embryo, the Church’s position on embryonic stem cell research is the same as that of procured abortion. “[The] human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized” (Instruction from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Donum Vitae, (I, 1)).
