Organ Donor Needed

Many of you know our former Music Director, Cheryl Koller, her husband, Chris, and their family. They are long-time members of our community. The Koller family is in great need of our assistance.

Please read the letter below written by Chris and Cheryl’s daughter, Caitlyn.

January 2024

Dear St. Andrew Friends,
My name is Caitlyn Koller and I will be celebrating my 31st birthday at the end of January.  I have been a member at St. Andrew since I was 3 years old.  Back in 2001, when I was just 8, this wonderful faith community prayed for me when I needed a heart transplant.  I will have had my new heart for 23 years in March.  My new heart has been doing very well but over the past few years, my kidneys have gradually been failing.  I have been on dialysis for the past 14 months.  Dialysis makes me very tired and sad, but I get up each day and try my best.  I enjoy making crafts and then giving them away to friends, family, and the doctors and nurses that help me.  I’m also an animal lover and enjoy spending time with my two dogs, Addy and Charles.

My birthday wish for 2024 is called “the big ask.”  I am on the list for a deceased kidney donation at the UNC Transplant Center in Chapel Hill, but the wait could be very long – four to seven years.  I am hoping and praying to find a living donor willing to share one of their kidneys with me.  God gives us each two kidneys, but we only need one to live.  If you would like to find out more about possibly becoming my hero and living donor, please call the UNC Center for Transplant Care at 984-974-7568.  Be sure to mention my name when you call.  The Living Donor Coordinator will provide you with all the information you need to know to help you make the best decision for you.

Thank you all for keeping me in your prayers.  Please pray that God will keep me strong and healthy until a kidney is available.
